Bacon Prepares Trip

This week is a busy one. Starting next Tuesday, I’m leaving for another short-term missions trip to Myanmar (Burma). The visa has already arrived; I’ve made arrangements for the preaching at FPCR; and now I’m trying to make sure all possible “loose ends” might be tightened up. I’ve been to the bank, updated my will, collected my clothing for packing, etc. It remains for those who are sending things for me to take with me to Burma to contact me to get those things Myanmar 059together. One of the key reasons for my trip to Myanmar this time is to check on our children’s home. There were some problems last fall between the government of Myanmar and certain protesters. Our children’s home had nothing to do with that, but we have been unable to contact them directly since that time. By God’s good grace, we have been able to maintain indirect contact all this time.

Kalemyo is the location of the children's home

Here is a close-up of the town of Kalemyo. The NLO Children’s Home is in a portion of Kalemyo on the western outskirts of town. That region is called “Tahan.” It is interesting that because the tones in Burmese carry information as well as the words themselves, that the placename “Kalemyo” can mean “The town of four forts,” but pronounced only slightly differently can mean “town of children.”

Entrance to Kalemyo.2

The picture to the right, has the name of the city at the entrance into town. Pictured left to right are Ruata (a member of the NLO board), Miss Hannah Allie (who was among those accompanying me on that trip), and Dr. Bacon.

Please pray for me on this trip. It will be the first I have taken back into Burma since the difficulties of last fall that have come to be known as “the saffron revolution.”
